چکیده

We describe a technique to integrate embedded microelectrodes and optical waveguides in Lithium niobate (LiNbO3) using a femtosecond laser, and a Y-splitter modulator was demonstrated. The Y-splitter was fabricated by femtosecond laser direct writing and the embedded microelectrodes were fabricated by combining femtosecond laser ablation with selective electroless plating. The embedded microelectrodes give rise to homogeneous electric field across the optical waveguides, which could result in effective electro-optic overlap. The simple and flexible technique could open new opportunities for fabricating integrated 3D electro-optic devices.

Multiple beam splitter using volumetric multiplexed Fresnel zone plates fabricated by ultrafast laser-writing.

A simple approach to producing a 1×N beam splitter is demonstrated by fabricating a volumetric multiplex phase Fresnel zone plate in bulk transparent material. This comprised four layers of zone plates created in borosilicate glass by femtosecond laser direct-writing, each shifted laterally relative to the illumination axis, creating four separate beamlets. Since the power transmitted in each b...

Femtosecond laser interference technique with diffractive beam splitter for fabrication of three-dimensional photonic crystals

A simple optical interference method to fabricate microperiodic structures was demonstrated. Femtosecond laser pulse was split by a diffractive beam splitter and overlapped with two lenses. Temporal overlap of the split femtosecond pulses, which requires 10 mm order accuracy in optical path lengths, was automatically achieved by this optical setup. One-, two-, and three-dimensional periodic mic...

Femtosecond laser written embedded diffractive optical elements and their applications

Femtosecond laser direct writing (FLDW) has been widely employed to create volumetric structures in transparent materials that are applicable as various photonic devices such as active and passive waveguides, couplers, gratings, and diffractive optical elements (DOEs). The advantages of fabrication of volumetric DOEs using FLDW include not only the ability to produce embedded 3D structures but ...

Compact 3D Microfluidic Channel Structures Embedded in Glass Fabricated by Femtosecond Laser Direct Writing

We demonstrate rapid fabrication of complex three-dimensional (3D) microfluidic channels with lengths up to ~6.0 cm within a tiny volume down to ~80 nl in glass substrates by femtosecond laser direct writing, which, to the best of our knowledge, is the longest microfluidic channel directly embedded in glass by femtosecond laser microprocessing. The fabrication mainly includes the following two ...

The study of propagation of a femtosecond laser pulse in the breast tissue

In this paper, the evaluation of time profile of a femtosecond pulse laser propagated through biological tissues is studied. The majority of the biological tissues with a high scattering anisotropy must be considered as turbid media, that their optical responses are complicated. To study the propagation of ultra-short pulse in turbid media, the diffuse equation is used. In this study, the analy...
